Here is a shout-out to an Etsy seller, which I haven't done in quite a while... I saw this poster, and had my eye on it for a while, seriously, look how cute it is! Plus, winter squash is like my kryptonite. I can't get enough. Well, maybe that's not how kryptonite actually works, but you get my point. The artist is Claudia Pearson, and her other stuff is just as cute!

I had pinned it on my Pinterest, but was waiting for a reason to come along so I could treat myself. And then, I was lucky enough to have the nicest houseguest ever, who surprised me by sending it to me out of the blue! Now, I have one of my very own- the picture is not that great due to the reflection, unfortunately, but, I got a cute frame and is it absolutely perfect in my kitchen!

Mmmmm.... butternut squash......

Etsy Shop Update- A New Direction!

I want to take an ever so brief break from posts about cooking to give you a little update on what's been going on over at my etsy shop. The basic idea is still the same- a mix of natural materials and metal, with clean organic shapes and a modern take on things.

But, recently I've been having some fun playing around, and have a new line of pieces with just a little more edge. With the addition of some gears, and some darker metal, the new pieces are a little edgy, and just have a little bit of a steam punk like feel, which is kind of fun.

Check it out!

But, never fear... the new things haven't replaced any of my old favorites- in particular, my best sellers, the line of tiny pearl earrings (I have a pair and seriously have worn them pretty much everywhere), and the Tear Drop series of wooden earrings with various beads.

Anyways, just thought it'd be fun to share my non-cooking activities of late!

Merry Christmas to All!

Merry Christmas!

There is a lot of excitement going on around here, first and foremost that I'm enjoying a great visit with my family... second, that the family now includes this little guy, who not only is adorable but managed to tolerate (and even like?) his Santa suit. Third, I have a winner for the give-away!

The winner is... *drumroll*... AubreyLaine!

I'll send her an email to get addresses and such sorted out, but in the mean time... congratulations!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday!

love,
Yellowfish

100th Sale!

Hurray! I finally reached the 100th sale in my etsy shop!

I think in celebration, I'll have a holiday giveaway... if you comment on this post letting me know which piece in the shop is your favorite, you can win a pair of the teardrop style earrings (with whichever beads inside you like best).

I'll draw a winner on Christmas Eve!

Sunday Shopping Alert: My Belle Bijoux

This week's feature is Michelle Hambourg at My Belle Bijoux, a seller from Toronto. Her shop has a variety of jewelry styles, but my favorites are the burnt wood pieces. The lines are simple, but the trees have almost a dreamy Dr. Seuss-like feel to them... they are definitely totally unique. I especially like these two pendants: the Crying Tree Pendant and the Only In Dreams pendant

You can also find more of her work on her flickr and her blog... go check it out!

Featured Etsy Seller: Stepping Stones

I fell madly in love with the work of this etsy seller as soon as I saw it... Stepping Stones has gorgeous jewelry made from, you guessed it, stones! (and, as you can see by my banner, I am WAY into that ;-). Stepping Stones is a family endeavor, based out of the Rhode Island Coast (although, I've been told that some of the stones are also the product of occasional visits to LA!).

I really like the clean, simple lines of the jewelry as you can see here with the Tres Hermanas neckace...

Of course I can't just pick one favorite, and also like the Tres Sorelle choker
and The Eye pendant.... this stuff is gorgeous and you should check it out!

Sunday Shopping Alert: CidTalk

This weeks featured etsy seller is Cidtalk, an extremely talented artist from Jefferson City, Missouri. Her etsy shop is full of prints of ink drawings, available as both frameable prints and cards. The subjects of her work are often details from nature, such as flowers, plants, fish and insects (even snails!). I really like how the topics are so organic, but then the drawings have a really crisp, sharp, modern edge to them. The details of the pictures (like, in the leaves) have an abstract feel that reminds me of art from the Pacific Northwest.

My favorite series is the "Crops of the World"... it is a group of four pieces that include Coffee, Wheat, Chocolate & Sugar, and Corn.

Being the die-hard coffee lover that I am, obviously I can't resist showing you that one...

And, if I can't have coffee, I want to have chocolate, so I better show you that one, too!

You can see her at her shop and also on her blog... go check it out!

Sunday Shopping Alert: Spamberly

This weeks etsy seller is spamberly with her alt_cross_stitch, a seller from Sommerville, Mass (which on an unrelated note is one of my old stomping grounds). She does hilarious cross stitch samplers, and loving the Big Lebowski as I do, I especially like this one ...

Sunday Shopping Alert: Aloka Jewelry

This weeks featured etsy seller is Aloka Jewelry, headed up by Lakshmi, a very talented metalsmith who is also a medical student! Her shop name is inspired by a Sanskrit word, meaning 'vision, glimmer, an opening of the eyes'... and I think that description is well-suited to the aesthetic of her shop. Her pieces have simple clean lines, but also carry a lovely, exotic feel. I especially love the Blooming Lotus piece pictured below, but the Filigree Necklace representing a lotus emerging from a pond is also gorgeous...In addition to bringing you really unique and lovely jewelry, the shop has an important social mission as well... all profits are donated to Asha for Education, an organization that is trying to achieve socio-economic change in India by focusing on education- they're working towards this by both improving the educational system, and the factors that influence access to education. So, get a fantastic piece of jewelry... help children... what is there to lose? Go check it out.

Sunday Shopping Alert: Alicia Block

I've been admiring this artists work for a while now, so she will be this week's feature! Alicia Block is a self-taught photographer from Michigan, who's been on etsy for quite a while now. I think her photographs are really beautiful... they have a very haunting, graceful, nostalgic quality to them that is really unique.

This is one I particularly like-- it is called 'Incomplete'...

You can see more of Alicia's work at her etsy shop or at her website

Sunday Shopping Alert: PurposeDesign

I've decided to start a few regular features on here... this is the first one to make an appearance: the Sunday Shopping Alert. This is going to be a weekly feature of different etsy sellers who's stuff I like (admire, covet, want as gifts, etc).

First up is purposedesign, a seller from Montreal. Her work combines functional cooking supplies with great design- my favorite are the test tube spice racks-- the spicelab rack and spicelab bar (well really, I'm a scientist who likes to cook, what else could I ask for). Here is the spicelab, and below is the etsymini... check it out!

This week (after a long lazy hiatus) I have an etsy seller or two to feature... first, GeekGear. I have bought things from this shop not once, but twice, because my first buy was such a hit. You can get things like these awesome pencil holders made from old disks... I love it!

On a similar note, my Christmas shopping also included some thing very cute from Glittersniffer... lego coasters! I love them, too!

Featured Etsy Seller: According to Femputer

Femputer has a very cute shop, I especially like the apple tees and the teetering treehouse print!

She also has a great blog which is where I learned about this trick you can use to show someone else's etsy mini. Since she taught me, I figured I'd feature her shop first... check it out!

Featured Etsy Seller: Skookum Handmade

Today I'm going to feature a fellow Etsier. I'm reeeaalllly excited about this one, because I somehow found this cutting board in my browsings, and immediately fell madly in love with it. Its made of a variety of recycled woods. I really wanted it, and would go back and 'visit' it periodically, but somehow its the kind of thing I would never actually end up buying for myself.

BUT! After I saw it, I mentioned that I wanted it and a very wonderful certain someone remembered that, found it and got it for me!! He just gave it to me today, and now I'm just admiring it :). You can see it here... I love the combinations of the different kinds of wood and everything. So awesome!!

This is the shop... Skookum Handmade

And this is my beautiful cutting board!
