Truth in Advertising

Ok, this is hilarious. I drive by this apartment building EVERY DAY and have been doing so for about 4 years now... and I never noticed this until someone (my Mom! who was visiting with my family!) pointed it out Sunday. A lot of apartment buildings around here have named themselves, and most of the time they're pretty cheezy, usually something about sunbursts, villas, and the like. But this one... this one completely takes the cake...
Do you think they just never said the name out loud? Or, did they think that a fancy font and spelling it with an 'i' would bamboozle people? Or maybe, just maybe, they thought that they'd just put it all out there, and see if anyone would just rent it anyways...

  1. I bet they meant "capri" and misspelled it! I would be sooooo tempted to stop in and ask about it! ROTFL!

  3. That is AWESOME! I would rent there JUST so I could tell people I live in the crappy apartments. Yeah, crappy. C-R-A-P-I. That's what I said.

  5. Yes, the main thing I'm shocked about is that I've seen it a million times, and never even noticed! the font really did work! (or, I have crapi vision?)

  9. HAHAHAHAHA

now I know why you said it was a "crapi apartment oven".

amazing. I think you should submit is to Leno or Letterman, whoever does those "it's true" funny bits.

  10. I'm late to this thread but just wanted to shed some light:

The name "Crapi" is intentional & tongue-in-cheek. It looks like the (new?) owners have put a lot of $ into fixing this group of buildings up. They actually stand out a bit in an area of relatively drab & downtrodden dingbat apts.

Also, if you walk right around the corner from the "Crapi", you'll find the "Chee-zee apartments".

Clearly, someone has a sense of humor and I think that's great.

  11. ah Ray, I see we must be neighbors or at least in the same vicinity... so, hello neighbor! how did you find me!?

I do think its awesome, which is why I went to the trouble of stopping and taking a picture and posting it, its totally hilarious. I had not actually noticed that they were particularly better than the surrounding apartments, but thats good to know they've been recently renovated and I'll have to pay attention next time I go by.

Also, I've now noticed and become a fan of the "Chee-zee" apartments as well..

  12. Yes. My dad was the contractor on the Crapi and Chee-zee apartments. Most definitely intentional. The Chee-zee apartments has a sign that says "Kraft Management" too. The owner of the properties has a very unique sense of humor and style!

  13. This is so iconic. I grew up in weHo walking to school & back amidst these dismal apt buildings. They usually also have a couple of dead palm trees near by or trees that are close to dead. And then there's the pair of pants somebody passing by throws on the lawn, etc. etc.

The interior is just as iconic - popcorn ceilings with the swinging 'kitchen as saloon' doors, etc.

Just the thought right now is making me queasy.
